Student Work and Organizations

Buena Vista University supports students in the production and presentation of scenes and short and full-length plays through play readings, performance showcases, and mainstage productions.

New Visions Series

The New Visions Series is focused on student-directed and/or student-written mainstage productions, either in one-act or full-length forms. Past New Visions productions include Steel Magnolias directed by Carrie New, and Mirks written and directed by Luke T. Harwath.

Student Showcases

Acting and directing students demonstrate their skills and talent each semester through public performance showcases. Acting students present monologues and scenes from their semester in Fundamentals of Acting or Advanced Acting classes, and directors present their one-act plays for Fundamentals of Directing or Advanced Directing credit.

Play Readings

When students are interested in writing their own material, either as conventional, scripted drama, or as improv performance, the BVU Theatre organizes play readings and developmental workshops to help students fine tune and ready their work for the stage.

Student Organizations

Alpha Psi Omega

BVU is the home of the Chi Chapter of the national student theatre honorary, Alpha Psi Omega. The chapter is the oldest student organization on campus, and was the 19th chapter established in the United States.

Sawtooth

The University Theatre is going "on the road." Sawtooth was created to produce special programming and workshops that can be booked for events on or off campus. Membership is determined by audition each semester.
