Joens Earns Upper Midwest Emmy Honor

Al Joens, a member of BVU's class of 1985, was recognized for his work for KTIV as he was inducted into the Upper Midwest Emmy Silver Circle.

Congratulations to Al Joens ’85, who was inducted into the Upper Midwest Emmy Silver Circle during October. Joens’ honor comes from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences-Upper Midwest Chapter. It recognizes Joens for the significant contributions he has made to his longtime employer, KTIV, as well as the industry.

Joens began his career at KTIV, the NBC affiliate in Sioux City, two weeks after his graduation from BVU. He marked his 35th anniversary with the station during the first week of June. Through the years, Joens has worked as the evening news anchor, the weekend anchor, and, for the last 15-plus years, the morning and noon news anchor.

The Manilla native earned first place awards in feature reporting five consecutive years from the Iowa Broadcast News Association. He was also part of the News 4 team that earned the Upper Midwest Regional Emmy for Outstanding Daytime Newscast three straight years.

Joens, who has three grown children, resides in Sioux City with his wife, Melissa Lanzourakis.
