Former Men's Basketball Coach Jeff Spielman Passes Away
Former Buena Vista head men's basketball coach Jeff Spielman passed away suddenly on Nov. 19 at the age of 61. Spielman guided the Beavers from the start of the 1983-84 season until the end of the 1992-1993 campaign.
Former Buena Vista head men's basketball coach Jeff Spielman passed away suddenly on Nov. 19 at the age of 61, following a single-car accident in Minnesota caused by an apparent heart attack. Spielman guided the Beavers from the start of the 1983-84 season until the end of the 1992-1993 campaign.
During his tenure at BV, Spielman coached nine All-Iowa Conference selections, including Brad Rohwer who is still seventh on the program's all-time career scoring list (1,525 points) and Barry Anderson, who's currently ranked third on the programs all-time rebounding list (779). Both individuals were three-time Second Team selections.
Jeff was currently the Director of Advancement at the University of Minnesota College of Biological Sciences. He also spent time in Advancement at BVU before going on to serve as Executive Director of Development at Iowa State University as well as the Director of Advancement at Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine.
