The Buena Vista University Concert Band, under the direction of Assistant Professor of Music Jerry Bertrand, will present its annual holiday concert on Sunday,  Dec. 7 at 3 p.m. in Schaller Memorial Chapel on the BVU campus. The concert is free and open to the public to attend.

The program will open with the overture from the opera "Tancredi", written by Gioachino Rossini in 1813. The featured work of the concert will be a performance of "Tempered Steel", written by Charles Rochester Young in 1997. Also to be performed is Eric Whitacre's "Sleep", which was originally a vocal work that was arranged for concert band by the composer, and "Albanian Dance", a high-energy setting of the Albanian tune "Shota".

Contributing to the spirit of the holiday, the BVU Concert Band will perform "Festival of Light" by Stephen Melillo. This work is written in celebration of Hanukkah and is dedicated to the Jewish tradition. The program will conclude with traditional carols of the holiday season, including "Greensleeves: A Fantasia for Band" by Robert W. Smith and "Patapan" by Shelley Hanson.
