BVU Storm Lake Campus Closed Due to Weather
Buena Vista University's Storm Lake campus is closed on Wednesday, January 30 and will reopen at 7 a.m. on Thursday, January 31 for the safety of students, faculty, and staff. This includes classes, campus activities, and athletic practices.

Due to dangerously low temperatures, and a forecast for more extreme temperatures on Wednesday, the Storm Lake campus of Buena Vista University will close at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, January 29 and reopen at 7 a.m. on Thursday, January 31 for the safety of students, faculty, and staff. This includes classes, campus activities, and athletic practices in Storm Lake.
Students at BVU site locations should refer to their community college partner’s campus for the status of their classes. Online classes will be held as scheduled.
All residence halls will remain open, as will the entrances in the Siebens Forum and Dixon-Eilers Hall. All other building will be closed and not accessible.
Campus Dining will adjust their schedule as follows:
- Tuesday, January 29 Dinner: 5-7 p.m.
- Wednesday, January 30 Brunch: 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
- Wednesday, January 30 Dinner: 5-7 p.m.
- Thursday, January 31: resume normal hours
Campus Security will be available to assist with emergencies. However, during this closure, they will not provide certain non-emergency services such as jump-starting batteries. If you experience any health-related emergencies, please call Campus Security at 712.749.2500 or dial 911.
Please be safe. If you do go outside during this time, make sure to dress accordingly with layers, including hats, boots, and gloves. Frostbite and low-grade hypothermia can set in relatively quickly. Reduce outdoor time and give yourself ample travel time. If you do travel, take a kit with snacks, water, warm clothes, blankets, and a charged cell phone in case you get stuck somewhere.
A reminder to Storm Lake students: please keep your residence hall windows shut. The extreme cold can freeze the lines in the building and rupture pipes. We appreciate your help in keeping the buildings running smoothly this winter.
During the closure, please pay attention to your BVU e-mail and BVU.edu for any future updates.
