BVU Proud to Play Role in Vaccination Effort
Freezer within Estelle Siebens Science Center said to be one of two units in rural Iowa with capability to safely store Pfizer vaccine.
Happy New Year BVU alumni!
I’m not sure residents of the U.S., or people around the world, for that matter, have ever so eagerly anticipated the start of the New Year.
At BVU, we’re starting January 2021 by making a freezer at the Estelle Siebens Science Center available for storage of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine. For 10 months, I’ve attended weekly meetings of leaders across Buena Vista County. When a recent discussion turned focused upon vaccine storage capacity within the county, I was pleased to be able to offer our freezer as a site to aid in the local distribution effort.
I’m told that BVU has one of two freezers in rural Iowa that have been approved by the state department of health to safely store the Pfizer vaccine, which requires a temperature of minus-70 degrees Celsius, or minus-94 degrees Fahrenheit.
Storing the vaccine here may result in a quicker, more efficient means of distributing the vaccine across the county, if not this section of Northwest Iowa. I am so grateful to be serving a University that can play a role in saving lives while protecting the health of folks in our community. In my mind, there is no better way to start the New Year!
May we all enjoy a safe, healthy, and prosperous 2021! Go Beavers!
Sincerely,
Brian A. Lenzmeier, Ph.D.
