BVU Digi Earns First-Place Honor

Program lands three entries among those honored in national film, audio festival

Senior Joshua Tigges headlined Buena Vista University’s efforts at the Film & Audio Festival that culminated the College Media Association fall conference and Society for Collegiate Journalists Biennium. The festival is a national competition featuring the best in student production work.

Tigges, a native of Carroll, captured first place in the sports feature category with a video he produced to preview the 2023 Beaver volleyball season.

Colin Imhoff ’23 earned second-place honors in audio documentary for his senior capstone project entitled, “Supreme Court Under Public Review.”

Sophomore Carter Soyer’s “Murders at Camp Willow Creek” received honorable mention accolades in the creative audio category.

“Winning three awards put our BVU DIGIs in an elite group of schools to win in more than one category,” stated Dr. Andrea Frantz, Professor of Digital Media.

“When I saw the organizer of the festival the day before, he went out of his way to say he was really impressed with BVU’s entries,” said Frantz, who collaborates with Jerry Johnson ’85, Assistant Professor of Digital Media, in coordinating the efforts of students involved in digital media programming. “As the organizer said this, (senior) Isaac Stone’s ‘Threshermen’ video (from Albert City’s Threshermen’s Days historical celebration) popped up on the screen in the exhibit hall. We’re very, very ‘DIGI-proud’ of the work ethic, creativity, and collaboration our small-but-mighty program produces.”
