Beavers Enjoy West Lake Okoboji Tour Aboard Queen II

Beavers experience one of Iowa's top destinations while connecting on cruise

One-hundred alumni, friends, faculty, and staff members helped celebrate Buena Vista University friendships and the beauty of the Iowa Great Lakes through a relaxing cruise aboard the Queen II expedition boat on Aug. 18.

Alumni came from as far away as Marshalltown for a two-hour cruise that played out in ideal conditions featuring sunshine, 80-degree temperatures and moderate westerly winds.

“It was so much fun seeing Beavers of all ages joining us for a late-afternoon cruise on one of Iowa’s best-known destinations, West Lake Okoboji,” said President Brian Lenzmeier. “The time on the Queen II allowed many to take a brief break as summer winds down and we head into a new academic year. It also gave us the chance to share some BVU updates while visiting with alumni and friends who make it possible to do all we can for our students and communities.”

Martha “Marty” Sandberg, a 2000 BVU graduate from Kiron, drove north to Arnolds Park with her husband, Ed. They took in the sights while standing beneath the “Beaver Nation” flag waving in the breeze at the front of the Queen II.

“The Queen II excursion was a fantastic way for alumni of all years and ages to gather and reminisce about their experiences at BVU,” Marty said. “I talked with alumni I’d never met before. We compared our different years there and how our educational experience at BVU helped us with choices we made in the paths we pursued in our lives. The evening on West Lake Okoboji was definitely a fun way for ‘Beaver Nation’ to gather on a spot away from campus.”

Marty then added this conclusion: “See you at Homecoming!”
