Alumni, Friends Celebrate Giving Tuesday with BVU
Funds raised in fourth annual celebration aid Annual Fund and BVU Athletics
Nearly 270 donors contributed $48,931 to Buena Vista University in its fourth celebration of the international day of generosity, Giving Tuesday.
Alumni joined faculty, staff, and friends of BVU from 23 states and Canada in making gifts to more than 23 funds ranging from essential scholarships and financial aid to Athletic programs and learning opportunities for thousands of students.
“We had a great Giving Tuesday across the BVU community because of supporters who gave to any one of more than 23 specific funds that benefit our students,” said BVU President Brian Lenzmeier. “In addition to connecting with our friends and alumni, it was rewarding to see nearly 200 students take the time to write thank you notes or share a thank you video message with those who gave.”

“BVU donors positively impact my BVU education because they help me receive a wonderful education with a welcoming community and endless opportunities by providing financial support I would not have otherwise,” says Mia Norton, a sophomore from Sioux City. “One opportunity our donors help make possible for me is to study abroad. I greatly appreciate what BVU donors have done for me and other students on campus!”
“Several matching gifts from our donors helped us approach the $50,000 mark on our fourth Giving Tuesday campaign,” says BVU Vice President for Advancement Joan Canty. “Year-end gifts are still arriving from our alumni, friends, faculty, staff, and parents of current students. Every gift we receive allows us to do all we can in delivering the quality education that’s been a BVU hallmark for decades.”
Donations on Giving Tuesday support the Annual Fund and Athletics. Support received does everything from keeping state-of-the-art facilities in great condition to supporting the work of faculty and staff to providing hands-on research and internship opportunities for students.
Coaches and staff with BVU Athletics use funding assistance from Giving Tuesday to offset travel expenses for their teams, upgrade equipment, purchase uniforms, and more.
