The Buena Vista University Concert Choir will be presenting its Spring Major Works Concert on Sunday, April 14, at 3 p.m. in Schaller Memorial Chapel on the BVU campus.

The choir is directed by Dr. Paula Keeler, assistant professor of music, who has announced her retirement at the end of this academic year after teaching at BVU for 14 years. There is no admission charge for the concert.

The choir will present selections from its February Sacred Music Tour to Denver, Colorado, and has prepared new selections adding to the repertoire. Student rehearsal directors for the spring are senior Kayla Shadlow from Storm Lake; junior Jacob Pedersen from Manson; and sophomore Kelsey Davidson from Schaller.

The concert will feature selections by Knut Nystedt, David Childs, Kurt Knecht, Randall Thompson, Joni Jensen and Norman Luboff. A brass choir of Buena Vista University band students will accompany the Lasst Uns Erfreuen and French horn soloist, freshman Kelsey Struck from Storm Lake, will accompany the choir on the Child’s arrangement of “Set Me as a Seal upon your Heart” based on a text from Confessions by St. Augustine.

Many student vocal soloists will be featured at the concert. The Buena Vista University Jazz Choir will also preview its Spring Jazz Show — which will be held at 7:30 p.m. May 2 in Anderson Auditorium — and there will be a sampling of performances by student soloists who will be participating in the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Student Auditions on Saturday, April 20 in Sioux City.
