Buena Vista University students, faculty, and staff partnered with the Alta-Aurelia Community School district for TOMS Shoes' "One Day Without Shoes" event, which raised $300 for The Bridge of Storm Lake.
A Day Without Shoes takes place annually and is when the company TOMS Shoes encourages people to take off their shoes to raise global awareness for children’s health and education. This was the third year that BVU students have hosted the event as part of a national effort sponsored by TOMS Shoes, and over 140 people pledged to go shoeless for the day.
TOMS Shoes gained notoriety as the company that matches every pair of its shoes purchased with a pair of new shoes that it gives to a child in need. Proceeds for the event were donated to The Bridge of Storm Lake, a non-denominational ministry committed to connecting, supporting, and empowering people in the community.
Student MOVE (Mobilizing Outreach and Volunteer Efforts), a BVU organization that coordinates student service activities; Human Performance Service Organization (HIPSO) and Student Activities Board (SAB) collaborated to host the event.
