BVU Students Plan Halloween Season Activities for Kids

Oct. 23, 2012

Buena Vista University students will be doing their part to make Halloween a fun experience for area children.

On Saturday, Oct. 27, several BVU student organizations will be setting up booths along Lake Avenue in the Storm Lake business district to offer activities for children, including face painting, pumpkin bowling, crafts, contests and games. The activities are part of the annual “Chills & Thrills Trick-or-Treat”event sponsored by Storm Lake United from 10 a.m. to noon.

The participating student organizations are Psi Chi/Psychology Club, Science Club, Impact, Phi Alpha Honor Society/Student Association of Social Work, Student Senate, BV Buddies, Accounting Club, Buena Vista Marketing Association, American Medical Student Association/Chemistry Club, Student MOVE (Mobilizing Outreach and Volunteer Efforts), RAICES, Buena Vista Athletic Training Society, and Society of Human Resource Management.

A “beggars night” for children in kindergarten through 4th grade will be held in the BVU residence halls from 6 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 29. Residence life staff, campus ministry, and the BVU football team sponsor the event. Parents are asked to bring their K-4 trick-or-treaters to the Dows Conference Center in the Siebens Forum to register. The children will be met by the BVU students and staff who will escort them through Pierce-White, Grand, and Liberty Halls for Halloween candy.

From 4-6 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 29, members of BVU’s Student MOVE, a campus organization that coordinates volunteer activities, will take part in a “Make Monday Matter” event with the Bridge, a local Christian outreach organization. MOVE members will help with food distribution to needy families at the Methodist Church and make Halloween crafts with children.
