Nov. 9, 2012
Storm Lake, Iowa
For the first time since 1997, the Buena Vista women’s soccer team is represented with multiple All-IIAC selections, and another earns Honorable Mention recognition, as announced by the league on Friday.
Senior forward Kellyn Arnold (Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins) becomes the first-ever player in program history to be voted to the All-IIAC First Team, while fellow senior midfielder Shelby Ripperger (Lee’s Summit, Mo./Lee’s Summit) lands a spot on the Second Team. Freshman forward Tori Carson (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Washington) was also recognized by earning Honorable Mention accolades.
Arnold, a Second Team selection a year ago, wrapped up her career in style, by leading the IIAC and finishing her season ranked in the top-10 nationally in total goals this season (20). She knocked through both goals in the season finale over Simpson, helping to lift the Beavers to the program’s first-ever victory over the Storm and its first-ever overall winning record. She also dished out four assists to finish as the overall leader in the league with 44 points, including seven during league play which was sixth-best.
Ripperger earns All-IIAC honors for the first time in her career following a solid end to her career. She led the league this season with a school-record 13 assists, while also chipping in with six goals. Her assists total ranked sixth at the end of the regular season and she becomes the program’s all-time career leader with 21.
Carson had a stellar start to her career, finishing second behind Arnold in goals (16) and Ripperger in assists (10). Both marks also ranked second overall in the IIAC, while her goal total ranked ninth and her assist total 11th nationally at season’s end.
Loras College defender Kinsey Campbell and Wartburg forward Cathy Reiter shared Co-MVP honors, while three coaches (Mike Kobylinski; Central, Jason Berna; Dubuque, and Dan Rothert; Loras) shared Coach of the Year accolades.
