The Buena Vista track and field teams were back on the track on Saturday by hosting the annual Dennis Young Classic inside of the Lamberti Rec Center. BVU's 4x200 meter relay teams helped highlight the day, as BVU captured a handful of high marks overall.
On the women's side, BVU had a pair of 4x200 relay teams finish in the top three, led by the "A" team of Casey James, Maggie Marker, Laura Eberly and Katie Larsen that took second in a time of 1:48.01. The "B" team of Abby Hesnard, Rachel Burnette, Whitney Nelson and Sydney Crnkovich was right behind in third with a time of 1:54.01.
Marker also advanced into the finals of the 55 meter dash and placed sixth in a career-best time of 7.46 seconds. Burnette and Nelson each made their way into the finals of the 55 meter hurdles, with Burnette taking fourth in a career-best 8.90 seconds, as Nelson crossed in 9.77.
Over on the men's side, their 4x200 meter relay team of Christian Cottingham, Seth Woodson, Brock Loseke and Ryan Eberly took gold in a time of 1:32.73.
Woodson also won gold in the 600 meter run in record-breaking fashion as he set a new school record with a time of 1:21.90. That breaks the old record of 1:22.30 set back in 2003 by Justin Barber and nearly reached the meet record of 1:21.62 set last year by Morningside College's John Harris. Seth's brother, Garrett, was right behind in third with a time of 1:22.67.
Brian Patterson finished eighth in the 400 meter dash (52.16) with Eberly close behind in 15th (52.74).
Alex Lamp was sixth in the 5000 meter run with a time of 16:27.01.
The 4x400 meter relay team of Seth Woodson, Ryan Eberly, Garrett Woodson and Brian Patterson was sixth in 3:27.60. That time was the fastest of the year for the team, including four seconds better than last week's mark.
The Beavers will continue to prepare for the IIAC Indoor Championships at the end of the month by taking part in the Grinnell College Invite next Saturday beginning at 10:00am.
