Senior Wes Nordquist (Adel, Iowa/ADM) was named one of 10 finalists for the prestigious Jostens Trophy by members of the Salem Rotary Club of Salem, Va. The trophy is presented annually to an outstanding male and female basketball player in Division III who excels not only on the court, but in the classroom and in the community.
Nordquist, who wrapped up his stellar BVU career last month, is a three-time First Team All-Iowa Conference selection, leading the league in scoring (17.0ppg) and rebounding (10.3rpg) as a senior this season. He was a leader on a BVU team which captured its 11th IIAC regular season title.
For his career, Wes ranks fifth all-time on BVU’s career scoring list with 1,583 points and is second all-time in rebounds (884). He also finished among the league leaders this season in field goal percentage (7th; 55.1), assists (14th; 63), steals (5th; 32), blocks per game (t-6th; 2.00).
On the national stage, he currently ranks 18th in double-doubles (13) and 23rd in rebounds per game. His double-double mark was also second-best in the West Region.
This marks the 16th year that the award has been presented. Adam Jones (2002) was the program’s only other finalist, and he went on to win the award that year.
Margo Muhlbauer was also a finalist on the women’s side for BVU back in 2010.
Voters’ ballots are due by March 13 with the winning schools expected to be notified by March 15. The awards presentation is scheduled for Thursday, March 21 at the Salem Civic Center in conjunction with the Men's Division III quarterfinals and semifinals being hosted in Salem, Va., on March 22-23.
