Freshman outfielder Jesse Munsterman (St. Peter, Minn./St. Peter) was recognized for his play last week by being named the Iowa Conference's Baseball Position Player of the Week, for the period ending April 1, 2012.
Munsterman hit .643 and slugged .786 as the Beavers went 2-2 in four games last week. He set a career high with three hits in the first game of a 3-game IIAC weekend series with Coe March 30, and then matched in the series finale March 31. He was also 2-for-4 with four RBI in a 19-4 win over Bethany Lutheran March 27. He led the team in batting average during the week while matching the team-high for hits with nine. Munsterman saw his season batting average jump from .250 to .370 as the week progressed.
He becomes the first Beavers to earn such recognition this season.
Buena Vista is 10-10 on the year (2-4 IIAC) and will be back in action this weekend for a three-game weekend conference series at Luther College (8-10, 1-3 IIAC). Friday's nine-inning game is scheduled to start at 3:00pm.
