The M.D. is perhaps our culture's most celebrated and rewarded professional. But do you have to be a medical doctor to be happy? If your goal is to work in the interest of human (or animal) health, you have many other options. And you'll be glad to know that you can choose from many different academic avenues to get there. Options include clinical sciences (such as nutritionist, dietician, speech-language pathology and audiology and nurses and physician assistants), therapy and rehabilitation and medical technology.
However if medical school is your holy grail, BVU's pre-professional program in medicine is available to guide you on your quest for admission. Because this is not a major, students often choose majors in chemistry or biology because they must take several classes in these fields. However, medical schools are also impressed by students with diverse interests. For example, if you have a passion for music, you may want to indulge it before concentrating on your medical studies. As long as you fulfill all of the prerequisite courses for med school, feel free to choose a non-science major.
