Suite placement will be done based on application with the highest to lowest point totals. All placements are done by the Residence Life staff based on the groups top preferences listed on the application. Once suite placements have been assigned and residents have been notified of their placement (no later than Friday, March 30th). A signed housing contract for each resident in the suite must be on file with the office of Residence Life and Housing by Friday. April 13th or the members of the suite will forfeit their placement in the suites and be placed back in general Room Draw. PLEASE NOTE: All suites are not alike. The type of furniture varies. Any student (with the exception of any incoming first-year or transfer student) who does not participate in the Room Draw process by the completion of Singles and Doubles Room on April 22nd, 2012 needs to contact the Director of Residence Life and Housing as soon as possible to request housing for Fall 2012.
POINT SYSTEM: Groups are assigned to suites based on a point system. Group point totals are calculated by combining the point totals of all group members on the application. An individual's point total is calculated in the following manner.
GPA - An individual gets the points of his/her GPA (through Interim 2011) out to the 2nd decimal place. If you have a 3.567 GPA, you get 3.56 points. No rounding up is done.
Class Status - Individuals will receive points for one of the following classifications: 3 points for rising 5th year seniors and rising seniors, 2 points for rising juniors, 1 point for rising sophomores. Rising means that on the day the application is due, you have enough credits earned and being taken to place you in that class as verified by the registrar's office. Anticipated summer classes do NOT apply. Students who will still have freshman status for the upcoming fall get zero points for class status.
Disciplinary Record - Points will be deducted for certain sanctions resulting from violations of college policy during the current academic year or for probation status from last year carried into this year. Sanctions resulting in point loss will be all official warnings, community service or educational projects, loss of privileges, fines, required counseling, probations or suspensions given by the Office of Student Services, the Campus Judicial Board, and/or the Briscoe, Constitution, McCorkle Hall Honor Council for violations of college policy.
1 point will be deducted for any violation where the resulting sanctions are limited to an official warning only. In the case of an alcohol violation, 1 point will be deducted for an offense which results in any sanctions not exceeding official warning, $50 fine and attendance at AlcoholEdu for sanctions.
2 points will be deducted for any violation where the resulting sanctions are an official warning in conjunction with one or more additional sanctions which may include community service or educational projects, loss of privileges, fines or required counseling. In the case of an alcohol violation, 2 points will be deducted for an offense which results in sanctions exceeding official warning, $50 fine and attendance at AlcoholEdu for sanctions but not exceeding official warning, $100 fine and alcohol assessment with follow through of any recommended treatment.
3 points will be deducted for any violation where the resulting sanctions include probation or suspension and may also be in conjunction with one or more additional sanctions including community service or educational projects, loss of privileges, fines or required counseling.
SUITE REPS: All necessary communication, including group assignment status, is done ONLY with the suite rep. Groups should choose a representative that is responsible and checks her/his campus mail on a daily basis.
VACANCIES: Any vacancies that occur in suite groups prior to the end of the first week of classes, Fall 2012, will be the responsibility of the suite group to fill. Residence Life and Housing will give the designated Suite representative one week to identify a replacement. Suite group point totals will be re-figured at the end of that week, with or without a replacement. If the new suite point total is not within the point total range of accepted suites, the entire suite group will be assigned rooms in the traditional residence halls and the first suite group on the waiting list will be given that suite.
In addition, if a suite group falls below the required six members and is allowed to remain in their designated assignment, Student Services will consolidate members of the suite into the lowest number of bedrooms. Members of the suite will be given one week after their initial notification to consolidate - failure to do so will result in the entire suite group being assigned to rooms in the traditional residence halls.
***Intentionally falsifying any information on the Suite application, including knowingly listing a person who will not be a part of your group in the fall, may result in the application being ruled ineligible and removed from the process.
