Option 1: Focus

Focus is a web–based portfolio that is used for BVU program assessment, but also offers you a personal portfolio component. Using Focus, you have the ability to create an attractive, professional ePortfolio through an easy–to–use interface. Focus is designed so you can upload your portfolio pieces and display them through the web without having to learn how to program websites. Your portfolio is “portable,” meaning that you can keep it and update it for as long as you need to after graduation.  The portfolio will be housed on the BVU server; when you graduate you can zip it up and take it with you.

Option 2: College Central Network

College Central Network (CCN) is BVU’s online job search site. In addition to searching for advertised jobs, connecting with alumni mentors, and getting your resume reviewed, you can now create an online portfolio from your CCN main page and then make it available to prospective employers via email.

If you don’t have a CCN account, you can create one by going here: www.collegecentral.com/bvu. Choose the Student icon and create a short profile. On your main page, scroll through the menu to Manage My Career Portfolio. Choose the format that fits you best, look at the sample portfolio for ideas, and then follow the easy instructions. This portfolio is always available to you for updating, even after you graduate, for as long as you need it.

Why a portfolio?

A portfolio is more proof of your potential to an employer. You may wish to send a link to your portfolio in advance of a job interview (and/or refer to it on your resume.) The process of putting together your best work can help you articulate your qualifications, and will be especially helpful in responding to interview questions. You’ll be able to quickly recall some relevant experiences and accomplishments.

What should I include?

Think about what is most relevant to your job search. Samples of your best work, photos of your campus involvement and leadership, awards, transcripts, reference letters, videos, and volunteer experiences can be included – anything that sets you apart and showcases your qualifications.
