Grant Nulle (2011)

Grant Nulle, a 2003 BVU graduate is the budget analyst for the Colorado Department of Revenue and is pursuing doctoral studies in Energy Economics at the Colorado School of Mines. At BVU, Grant double-majored in economics and political science – public administration. While a student at the University, he also took courses at Oxford University, The Washington Center, and the Ludwig von Mises Institute.

Andrew Offenburger (2010)

Andrew Offenburger, a 1998 graduate of BVU, is currently a Ph.D. student in U.S. history at Yale University, where he also earned his M.A. in African studies (2008). Andrew's research focuses on global frontiers and the history of the American West, and his dissertation will explore the formation of an Afrikaner colony in the U.S. Southwest in the early 1900s. Andrew also leads an academic journal he founded in 1999, Safundi: The Journal of South African and American Studies.

Dr. Lisa Shepherd (2009)

Dr. Lisa Shepherd graduated from BVU in 1998 with a triple major in biology, chemistry, and math. In 2008 she was listed as one of "America's Best Primary Care Physicians." Since speaking at Scholars Day, Lisa has moved her practice to Storm Lake, where her husband Jason, a 1999 graduate of BVU, is an instructor of computer science at the university.

Trent Grundmeyer (2008)

Trent Grundmeyer, graduated from BVU in 2003. One of the youngest principals in the state, he was the principal at Hampton-Dumont High School when he spoke at Scholars Day. Trent is co-author of the 2006 non-fiction book No Teacher Left Behind, about leadership in education. He and colleague David DeJong co-authored the book while working on their master's degrees at Drake University. Today, Trent is the principal at Indianola High School.

Joseph Wittrock (2007, 2006)

Joseph Wittrock graduated from BVU in 2000. He is senior vice president of credit research at Aviva Capital Management in Des Moines. He earned a master's degree with honors from the Graduate School of Business at the University of Chicago.

Dr. Wind Goodfriend (2005)

Dr. Wind Goodfriend, who graduated from BVU in 1998, was assistant professor of psychology at Boise State University when she spoke at the first Scholars Day. Today, she is assistant professor of experimental psychology at Buena Vista University. She received her Ph.D. in Social Psychology from Purdue University in 2004. Dr. Goodfriend has researched and published academic articles on romantic relationships and gender stereotypes.
