Buena Vista University

Buena Vista University's Master of Science in Education in School Guidance and Counseling is designed with the professional in mind. The three-year program encompasses 37 credit hours of practical learning in a format that accommodates full-time workers. Students complete their credit hours by attending classes during the summers, evenings, Saturday sessions, and through supervised field experiences.

Each June, graduate students meet at BVU's Storm Lake campus for two 2-week summer sessions, completing six credit hours of graduate instruction. Each fall and spring semester students meet weekly in a combination of ICN, virtual classrooms, and on one or two Saturdays on campus and complete one 3-credit hour course.

Course Schedule

The graduate schedule begins with an orientation session on the Storm Lake campus in early May after applicants are notified of acceptance into the program. The session includes: meeting faculty and students in the cohort, reviewing courses and program policy, and touring campus housing and the library. We review technology, financial aid, registration, and a luncheon.
