FAQ
Course Delivery
Students are admitted each June as a cohort and take classes in campus classrooms, at ICN
locations, and in online meetings for optimal access and learning. Graduate
program students enroll in one course during the fall semester, one course
during the spring semester and two courses each June.
Fall and Spring Semesters
Fall and spring semester courses are delivered using a combination of Iowa
Communications Network (ICN) sessions, Blackboard's virtual classroom, and
face-to-face meetings. The ICN and virtual meetings are once weekly during
evening hours. In addition, two Saturday campus sessions will be scheduled on the academic
calendar at the instructor's discretion.
Summer Sessions
Two summer sessions are offered on the Storm Lake campus over two 2-week
periods, Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (eight days per term).
During these courses, students experience "hands-on" preparation of materials,
integrated computer laboratories, interaction with peers and graduate faculty,
and access to BVU's state-of-the-art library facility and resources.
Iowa Communications Network
ICN locations for the graduate courses are scheduled on a yearly basis using K-12, college, and library facilities. ICN sites are assigned dependent upon the work and home locations of students enrolled during that year. It is imperative the number of locations is balanced with the need to make courses manageable for instructors. Therefore, BVU limits the number of sites for a course in order for students to receive personalized instruction in each course. As such, driving a reasonable distance to an ICN site is necessary for a majority of students.
