Accreditation

The Athletic Training Education Program is a Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) accredited undergraduate program. Buena Vista University is dedicated to offering the students enrolled in the Athletic Training Education Program academic curricula and clinical experiences that will aid in preparation for the BOC (Board of Certification) certification examination and help them achieve entry level employment as a Certified Athletic Trainer in the setting of their choice.

What is Athletic Training?

Athletic training is an allied health care profession dedicated to prevention, care, and rehabilitation of injuries in physically active people. Athletic trainers work with physicians and other members of the sports medicine team to help injured athletes return safely to their sports. Certification by the Board of Certification is the entry-level credential needed to practice athletic training. Some states also require athletic trainers to be licensed. The mission of our program is to prepare professionals for careers in sports medicine as certified athletic trainers.

How is the Athletic Training Major at BVU Structured?

The Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP) is a four-year academic and three-year clinical program fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). The athletic training major provides students with a thorough knowledge of the prevention, evaluation, management and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. Upon completion of the ATEP, students are eligible to sit for the Board of Certification Exam.

What about Clinical Experiences?

All athletic training majors complete clinical internships totaling at least 900 hours under the direct supervision of a certified athletic trainer. Most of your experience will come from working with Buena Vista University student-athletes in our Athletic Training Facility.
Many students participate in summer internships in athletic training.
