The Baltimore Consort

Schaller Memorial Chapel

The Baltimore Consort has delighted audiences on both sides of the Atlantic and earned their CDs a place on Billboard Magazine Top-Ten list. The group’s arrangements of early music from England, Scotland, France, Italy, and Spain speak to the heart as well as the mind, and their love for the early music of English/Scottish heritage has led them to delve into the rich trove of traditional balladry and dance tunes preserved in the Appalachian mountains and Nova Scotia.

Doc Severinsen

Schaller Memorial Chapel

“Heeeeere’s Johnny!” That lead-in, followed by a big band trumpet blast, was the landmark of late night television for three decades. The ‘Johnny’ was Johnny Carson, the announcer was Ed McMahon and the bandleader was Doc Severinsen. When the show ended in May 1992, it was beginning of a new career for Doc Severinsen. Within a week of the final telecast, he and his Big Band were on the road. The band’s repertoire includes Ellington and Basie standards, pop, jazz, ballads, big band classics and, of course, The Tonight Show theme.

The Hot Club of San Francisco presents Cinema Vivant, an evening of vintage silent films accompanied by live gypsy swing, celebrating the music of Django Reinhardt’s and Stephane Grappelli’s pioneering Quintette du Hot Club de France. The ensemble borrows the all-string instrumentation of violin, bass and guitars from the original Hot Club, but breathes new life into the music with innovative arrangements of classic tunes and original compositions.
