Students are prepared to become professional multimedia storytellers. They become proficient with the tools of digital media including audio, video, digital photo, text, and a variety of software editing and publishing packages.

Students who graduate with this major can pursue careers in journalism, radio/television/film production, social media management, event planning, sports communication and creative services.

We see media as a vehicle to share human stories that naturally serve to connect us all socially in the 21st century. The abilities to write, research, produce, edit, and disseminate those stories are in growing demand across all industries, and we produce professionals who can do so ethically and with the technical skill employers look for.

You’ll find students writing, producing, and creating at The Tack Online, KBVU 97.5 radio, and BVTV getting creative, showcasing their talents, and experimenting with creative ideas linked to BVU curriculum.

The National Society for Collegiate Journalists honor society has a chapter right on campus, supporting student media leaders! SCJ members annually attend and present at the national College Media Association conference.

BVTV puts professional video equipment in your hands, with state-of-the-art cameras, powerful editing software and HD production facilities. Your work will be seen across the street and around the world!

You’ll have stepped behind professional video cameras, taken microphones in hand, and headed into the field armed with DSLR cameras. We’ll help you build your portfolio as soon as you can.

Our students have creative control, pitch their own story ideas or original programming, then produce it with state-of-the-art technology in our media studios.

Our program boasts a Disney scholar among its faculty and we offer an opportunity for students to go behind the scenes at Disney every January. With students constantly recognized for their experience and achievements, we’re always traveling to state, regional, and national competitions to show or original media work. In 2015-16, for example, our students won 59 awards from the Iowa College Media Association, the Society for Collegiate Journalists, the Society for Professional Journalists, and the Iowa Motion Pictures Association.
