Name: David Ekstrom
Steps Taken:I took this photo using an HDR process with a Canon 60D using a 18-135mm lens.
Hardware/Software Used: I used Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom and Photomatix to edit this photo.
Design Goals: I took this photo on a South Dakota trip in June 2011. I was exploring Spearfish Canyon to find a place to take HDR. I made it in black and white because I wasn't happy with the atmospherics.
--Due to a tie, second place will be awarded to the next two static submissions.

Name: Adam Chown
Steps Taken: I used a Canon T2i to take three photos: one correctly exposed, one under-exposed by two stops, and one over-exposed by two stops. The three photos were blended together to create the final image, which is an HDR (high dynamic range) image.
Hardware/Software Used: Canon EOS Utility (for correction of chromatic aberration) and Photomatix Pro (to create HDR image).
Design Goals: My goal was to create a surreal image that would remind me of the week I spent in the Keys. This is the very spot where I spent time writing and enjoying the beautiful February weather.

Waterfish

Name: Zoami Calles-Sosa
Steps Taken: Took an ice cube then manipulated into a fish via smudge, clone, and patch tool. Edited the colors through adjustment layers, and constant use of the dodge, blur, and burn tools. A few effects used on the body of the fish.
Hardware/Software Used: Wacom Intous3, PS, and image of ice cube.
Design Goals: Create a calm surreal composition.

Annie News is Good News

Name: Grace E. Bodey
Steps Taken: I found her story in a paper and thought more should have been done to document her. I did an initial phone chat to test her levels because everything was done via the phone. I conducted three interviews, chose a music bed, collected ambient sound from around town, recorded narration, and mixed it.
Applications used: Audition: captured sounds/mixed tracks Lage Prod. Room: recorded narration and phone interviews
Design Goals: Present and future generations should listen and feel her exuberance for life. Helen's optimism will hopefully inspire all ages. Her story from childhood to present outlines her philosophy: be young!

Name: Justin Klein and Mark Haugen
Steps Taken: After creating the song, we did a run-down of the lyrics to figure out what would be some things that we could convey in a video. Then we did a storyboard, shot the video, and then edited according to the story we wanted to portray.
Applications used: Pro Tools 8 Avid Media Composer
Design Goals: We wanted to convey a gritty suburban feel. One that portrayed how bad we were in the streets...but only of a small town. Also, within the support group, just how contagious being bad is.

Steps Taken:
- Take pictures of every face of building.
- Measure at least one side of each face of building.
- Edit pictures with Photoshop to remove trees and other objects. 4.Make building model in Google SketchUp, using pictures and measurements taken to find the height and other important parts of the model.
Applications used: Photoshop, Google SketchUp
Design Goals: Show the world what my hometown looks like.
iPad Participants
The TLTC SUYS contest must have five entries per category to be eligible for judging. Due to lack of submissions in this category, judging did not take place. However, we would like to thank those who submitted their work in the iPad Category

Design Goals: I really had no design goals; I just wanted to create something with the new app I got.

Name: Mark Haugen
Steps Taken: I simply wanted to record/produce a multi-track recording on the iPad. Although I had access to other ways to use other mics with the iPad, I stuck with the onboard one to remain a hipster purist. Out of it, came this lo-fi jam that you could hopefully put on a mixtape for your girlfriend.
Applications used: Garageband
Design Goals: I have way too many Pro-Tools plugins, and I feel like a lot of times they get in the way of my songwriting. On the iPad I was limited to 8 tracks and few plugins. I wanted to make more with less.
