We want you to remain up to date on the latest malware affecting populations within Buena Vista University's community. By keeping yourself up to date on the latest problems, you protect not only yourself, but the entire campus and its extensions. Check here for any problems that we have been encountering.

Phishing Scams

A phishing email is a form of identity theft that attempts to trick people into revealing personal information. The messages can appear to come from legitimate sources, including familiar logos or screen shots.

The following is a reminder about how to handle these kinds of messages. By being careful about what you click on and share, you protect both yourself and our university.

  • BVU and other legitimate businesses will not send emails requesting information such as username, email address, password or any other personal information.
  • Do NOT respond to e-mail messages that ask you to provide or verify your personal information. Do NOT follow any directions contained in such messages.
  • If you did respond to a fraudulent email message, please change your password immediately. Call 2FIX if you need help changing your password.
  • Delete any suspicious or unwanted emails.
  • All official communication from the Information Services Department start with the subject line “BVU 2FIX Advisory:” and will be signed by an Information Services Department member.
