Buena Vista University seeks a proven, visionary leader to fill an upcoming opening as Director of Residence Life & Housing. This position is responsible for the supervision and administration of a comprehensive residence life program and all functions associated with campus housing. This position will promote and coordinate residence hall programming efforts as well as oversee the Residence Life staff (3 FT and 30 plus student staff) and coordinate housing assignments for all students. In addition this position will serve as a hearing officer within the student conduct process in conjunction with the Chief Judicial Officer. The preferred candidate must demonstrate at least three years of prior success in the area of Residence Life and Housing. The ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, effective mentoring, and a desire to work in a culture of collaboration and collegiality. Knowledge of and experience with best practices in residence life programming and community building are critical success factors. A Master’s Degree in student personnel, counseling, or a related field is required. Additional important qualities and characteristics of the preferred candidate include effective past working relationships with faculty, staff, students and key constituents of residence life, the ability to work as a member of a top performing team, and strong programming and implementation skills. Deep appreciation for an ethnically diverse Midwestern community and small private institution is required. A background check will be conducted on the final candidate.
