Spring Break Service Blog 2011
Check our Spring Break Service Blog 2011 to read about students' experiences of service as they partipate in BVU's A.W.O.L program.
- Washington DC: Hunger and Homelessness
Participants will be serving at The Pilgrimage; the oldest service-learning hostel organization in D.C. The Pilgrimage is an outreach ministry with the profound vision of serving others and providing a hospitable environment. - Dominican Republic: Children and Poverty
Participants will embark on a service adventure that will volunteer with children living in poverty in an orphanage. The group will have the opportunity to volunteer in a variety of areas that include working with kids in the following areas: math, English, science, health, reading, arts and crafts, music, and theater. - Gulf Coast Disaster Relief: Pensacola, Florida
Participants will help restore regions of the Florida Gulf Coast that were affected by the 2010 oil spill. In addition to environmental projects, group members may also choose to assist in a variety of other community based projects which address child welfare, poverty, homelessness, immigration, and education. - Service Road Trip
The trip will start out in Storm Lake and drive south to Kansas City, through Oklahoma City, and stop in Dallas. Along the way participants will engage in a variety of service projects i.e. schools, animal shelters, and hospitals.
