Admissions Requirements for International Students at Buena Vista University

The United States system of education requires graduation from a secondary school in order to gain admission to a college or university. Additionally, to be considered for admission to Buena Vista University, you must submit the following:

1. International Application for Admission.
2. Official records with English translations from every academic institution attended beginning with the first year of secondary school. Records must include date of entry, date of completion/termination and the name of certificate/diploma received. You are encouraged to include records related to other activities you participated in during your education.
3. An English proficiency report to be verified by the results from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). TOEFL information can be located at www.toefl.org. (Buena Vista University code is #6047).
   • RECOMMENDED SCORE: 550 PBT/213 CBT/79 iBT
   • MINIMUM REQUIRED SCORE: 475 PBT/152 CBT/50 iBT
     (Equivalent score from the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is acceptable.)
   In order to ensure proper placement, all incoming international students are required to complete an ESL diagnostic during International Student Orientation. Students may be placed in ESL classes if the instructor determines it is necessary.
4. A personal statement providing background on your educational experience thus far and your educational and professional plans for your future.
5. A minimum of two Letters of Reference/Recommendation to be sent directly to Buena Vista University from the principal(s) or instructor(s) who can lend insight regarding rank in class and comparison with classmates. Each letter should also indicate the length of time the writer has known the student.
6. A certified statement of financial position, with supporting documents from banks and/or sponsoring agencies.

ALL DOCUMENTATION MUST BE ORIGINAL OR CERTIFIED/ATTESTED COPY. FAXES AND PHOTOCOPIES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

The admissions committee will determine eligibility for admission after the above information has been received. The I-20 form will be sent once the student has been offered admission.
