Buena Vista senior 184-pounder Brian Broll is looking to reach a milestone on Wednesday night, as he goes after his 100th career win when the Beavers wrestle a dual at Dakota Wesleyan University.
Broll, who enters the match with a 99-22, will become just the 13th wrestler in BVU history to reach that milestone. Andy Krueger was the last to do so, as he finished with 110 triumphs from 1997-2000.
“Getting to 100 wins will be exciting,” says Broll. “It is a landmark that I was never able to achieve while in high school.”
Already 12-1 on the year, he hasn’t wrestled in a competitive match since taking the individual title at the BVU Open back on December 8, but he says he’s been doing a lot to keep in good shape both physically and mentally.
“I have been able to wrestle over break with Joe Nord, a friend from high school and former Division I wrestler,” he says. “I also lifted, ran, and swam to keep in shape the best I can.”
Although getting to the milestone will be a nice and gratifying moment, he’s more focused on the big picture scheme of things.
“It's pretty cool (getting to 100), but in the big picture, the number of wins isn't really that important,” he adds. “I take more pride in how I finish at tournaments and how well I wrestle against competitive opponents.”
Wrestling on Wednesday night is scheduled to begin at 7:00pm.
