Women's Golf Tees-Off at 21-Team D3 Midwest Classic

The Buena Vista women's golf team teed-off in the 21-team D3 Midwest Classic on Saturday, hosted by Carleton College.  As a team, BVU is in 16th after 18 holes, while senior Kylie Hammer is tied for 10th.

This year's field includes four teams ranked in the National Golf Coaches Association/Golf World Division III preseason coaches poll, led by #3 and defending national runner-up Gustavus Adolphus, which is tied for the team lead after the opening round with fellow top-10 team UW-Eau Claire.  Both teams fired rounds of 321 and stand four shots clear of UW-Stout and 12 strokes in front of St. Olaf, who's in fourth.

Taylor Drenttel of the Gusties leads the medalist race by five shots heading into Sunday's final 18 holes after her opening-round 73.  UW-Eau Claire's Sara Mattes and UW-Stout's Brit McNett-Emmerich are tied for second after rounds of 78.  Hammer is just three shots back of those two, as she's tied with four others after posting an 81.

Lauren Dougherty and Arinda Abbuhl turned in rounds of 90 and 91, respectively, as Kylie Woodley carded a 106 to round out the rest of the scores for the Beavers.


A total of 115 golfers are entered into the event which will start back up at 7:30am on Sunday out at the Jewell Golf Club.
