



After being edged in the opening set, 25-23, the Buena Vista volleyball team evened the match with a thrilling 26-24 triumph in the second set, but then it was the University of Dubuque posting 27 kills over the next two sets (25-20 and 25-19) to en route to the four-set Iowa Conference victory on Wednesday night.
Sophomore Kirsten Van Zuiden (Carroll, Iowa/Carroll) led the Beavers with 13 kills and just five errors, to go along with a pair of ace serves and five digs. She is now just 28 away from reaching 500 in her career. Junior Chelsea Clayton was next with seven kills, as the Beavers tallied 33 on the night, including 12 in the second set.
Sophomore Courtney Van Haaften dished out 25 assists in the contest and is now just 49 shy of 1,500 in her career. Freshman Abby Hinrichs recorded a team-high three ace serves to go along with 12 digs, while sophomore Jordan Henningsen, tallied a career-best 27 digs.
Susan Danielewski and Klaudia Basierak each turned in 14 kills to help lead the Spartans (7-5, 1-1 IIAC).
Buena Vista is now 1-11 overall (0-2 IIAC) and will be back in action again this weekend as it takes part in the Knox College Invite. The Beavers will open play on Friday evening against Monmouth College, beginning at 5:00pm.
