Decorah, Iowa

Luther College scored a run in the second inning of game on Saturday afternoon, and the fourth-ranked Norse held on to top the Buena Vista softball team, 1-0.  Luther (28-4, 9-1 IIAC) then scored three runs in both the third and fourth innings of the finale to blank the Beavers, 6-0.

Luther got back-to-back singles in the second before a Beaver error scored the game’s only run.  Senior Chancey Wilcke suffered the hard-luck loss on the mound, scattering seven hits in a complete-game effort, while striking out two.

Senior Aphton Roberts tallied the only hit for BVU in the contest, as all eight hits in the contest were singles.

The Norse then put together a two-out, bases empty rally in the third to take a 3-0 lead before getting a three-run home run in the fourth for the game’s final runs.

Wilcke took the loss for BVU, allowing three runs (two earned), while striking out two in 2.2 innings of work.  Jami Webster pitched 3.1 innings and was charged with three runs  on five hits.

Five different Beavers tallied singles in the contest.

Buena Vista is now 13-11 overall (3-5 IIAC) and will return to action again on Wednesday afternoon for an Iowa Conference home doubleheader against Loras College beginning at 3:00pm.
