Joey Stivers put the Buena Vista men's soccer team out in front early on with the first of his two goals on the night, but the Beavers came up short against Coe College on Friday night, 5-2.
Stivers took the rebound off of a Drake Ruth shot, which bounced off the left post, and drilled it to the back corner of the net to break a scoreless match late in the 14th minute.
Coe then responded late in the half with goals during the 33rd and 35th minute to take a 2-1 advantage before Stivers evened things back up during the 41st minute with his fourth goal of the year.
The Kohawks (4-7-1, 1-1 IIAC), who tallied 13 second-half shots, then got goals during the 62nd and 69th minutes to take a 4-2 lead before adding on a late goal for the game's final margin.
Stivers finished with a team-high three shots for the Beavers, while Tyler Lafferty followed with two.
Buena Vista dips to 5-4-1 overall (0-2 IIAC) and will return to action on Wednesday, October 3 for a non-conference road contest at St. Mary's University (Minn.) for a 6:00pm match.
