Hamline University used a goal late in the first half and again late in regulation to edge the Buena Vista men’s soccer team on Sunday afternoon, 3-2.
Freshman Matt Seniura (Grandville, Mich./Grandville) put the Beavers on the board first when he converted a pass from junior Tyler Lafferty (Berwyn, Ill./St. Joseph) just more than 16 minutes into the match.
Hamline, which out-shot BVU in the opening half, 7-4, evened the score with three minutes left in the half on a header off a corner kick. It then took its first lead of the contest four minutes into the second half.
Lafferty dished out his second assist of the contest when he redirected a pass off a corner kick to Tyler Huntsman (Aztec, N.M./Aztec) to even the score at 2-2 midway through the half.
Hamline (2-4-1) then turned in the game-winner with just over 10 minutes left in regulation when a kick from the left side made its way through traffic and to the back of the net.
Huntsman finished with a team-high three shots on the day, as the Beavers were held to only eight in the contest.
Freshman Michael Rydberg (Overland Park, Kan./Olathe East) suffered his first career loss, going the distance in-goal, allowing three goals, while saving four.
Buena Vista is now 4-1-1 on the year and will look to get back into the win column on Thursday afternoon when it travels to Faith Baptist Bible College for a 4:30pm contest.
