



Buena Vista senior Troy Ticknor (Adel, Iowa/ADM) turned in a 1-over 73 and is tied for third after the opening round of the BVU Men’s Golf Spring Invite, held on Friday out at Lake Creek Country Club. As a team, the Beavers posted a 305 – their low score of the spring – and are tied for fifth, only five strokes back of the lead.
Ticknor had three birdies on the day, including back-to-back ones on No. 17 and No. 18. He sits just one stroke back of second and five back of the overall lead. Shay Kaufman (Anita, Iowa/CAM) carded a 74 and is tied for fifth, while leading the Buena Vista “B” team, which is tied for 11th among the 19 total teams.
Andrew Zinn (Spencer, Iowa/Spencer) was right behind Ticknor on the varsity side with a 75 and is tied for 11th. Mitch Brunick (Sioux Falls, S.D./O’ Gorman) finished with a round of 77, while Kyle Auffert (Clarinda, Iowa/Clarinda) and Jaron Smool (Bagley, Iowa/Panorama) were next after rounds of 80 and 84, respectively.
Connor Dondale (Indianola, Iowa/Indianola) posted a round of 79 and is tied for 37th.
A total of 107 golfers were on the course for the event.
Central College turned in a round of 300 overall and holds a two-shot lead over Northwestern College (IA). Central’s “White” team and Morningside College are each tied for third after rounds of 304. BVU is tied with Kirkwood Community College, and the two lead Luther College (312) by seven shots.
Morningside’s Brandon Thomspon was the only individual to break par on the day, firing a low-round of 4-under 68 to take a four-shot lead into Saturday’s final round over Central’s Justin Livingston. Ticknor is tied with Northwestern’s Kyle Stanek, and the duo is one shot in front of six other golfers.
Saturday’s final round will tee-off at 9:00am. It will be the final round for the Beavers before they open the Iowa Conference Championships next Friday morning in Pella, Iowa.
