Follow former BVU football standout Jesse Schmidt (2002-05) as he plays his fourth season in the Arena Football League (AFL) and second with the Iowa Barnstormers in 2011.  Weekly updates to follow the success of Schmidt will be posted to this site throughout the season.

Game-by-Game Recap

Game 1: March 19th @ Pittsburgh Power
Schmidt finished second on the team with eight catches for 68 yards as the Barnstormers fell 58-28 to open the season.

Game 2: March 25th vs. Spokane Shock
Schmidt caught his first touchdown pass of the year for the game's first score and later added another TD grab in the third quarter to help the Barnstormers even their season record at 1-1.  He finished with a game-high 11 catches for 157 yards.

Game 3: April 1st vs. San Jose SaberCats
Schmidt upped his season touchdown total to eight with six scores, including two in the fourth quarter, as the Barnstormers won their second straight game, 76-69.  Schmidt caught a game-high 13 passes for 183 yards.  The team moved into the seventh spot of the AFL Coaches Poll after the win, while San Jose dropped from fifth to eighth.

Game 4: April 9th at Kansas City Command
Schmidt tallied seven catches for 118 yards and two touchdowns, but it wasn't quite enough as the Barnstomers saw their two-game winning streak come to an end with a 62-48 loss.  He currently leads the team with 39 catches and 521 yards on the year and sits second with 10 touchdowns.  He's also ranked in the top-five in the league in both catches and receiving yards per game.

Game 5: April 16th vs. Chicago Rush
Schmidt turned in a record-breaking performance despite the Rush getting a late field goal with 1.8 seconds left to win, 50-49.  Schmidt put the Barnstormers in front 21-7 after the first quarter by hauling in all three touchdown passes.  After adding one more catch in the second, he added two more TD grabs in the third quarter as Iowa led 42-41 heading into the fourth.  Schmidt and Banks hooked up for the franchise's record-breaking touchdown grab early in the fourth to put the Barnstormers up 49-41 before the Rush scored the game's final nine points.  After the game, Schmidt was named the game's National Guard MVP, Russell Athletic Offensive Player of the Game, and the JSL Ironman of the Game.  He now leads the the team and the AFL with 17 touchdown catches this season.
