About Andrew: Born 3/2/91...Is the son of Michael and Susan Smith...Has three brothers, Ben, Joseph, and Thomas, as well as one sister, Anna.

High School Highlights: Was a six-sport athlete as he competed in football, XC, basketball, track and field, golf, and baseball. Was a state qualifier for XC in 2008, All-State in Track and Field, placed second in 400 hurdles Class 1A in 2009. Was Academic All-State in both track and field and XC. Voted as Senior Class President and graduated as Class Valedictorian.

College Highlights: Andrew has taken part in 18 career events with the Beavers, including all 14 over his first two seasons. As a freshman in 2009, he posted a season-best time of 28:40.3 during the Regional Championships to close out the year. In 2010, he nearly matched his career-best time when he finished with a time of 28:50 during the Iowa Conference Championships. Last season as a junior, he ran in both the first two meets of the year and the final two, recording a season-best time of 30:14 during the IIAC Championships. Alex is also a two time all-conference selection in cross country and a two-time selection in track and field. Also in track and field, he was the 2011 Iowa Conference Outdoor Track and Field Champion in the 400 meter hurdles.
