Sophomore Eric Croghan (Portsmouth, Iowa/Harlan) came through with a two-out walk-off single in the nightcap on Tuesday night, as the Buena Vista baseball team completed the doubleheader sweep of league-leading Central College with a 6-5 victory.  The Beavers blanked the Dutch in the opener, 4-0.

Trailing 5-3 heading into the seventh inning of the finale, BVU loaded the bases with back-to-back singles from Nick Schlecht (Omaha, Neb./Skutt) and Ryan Scheetz (Omaha, Neb./Millard North), respectively, before pinch hitter Joe Paletta (Omaha, Neb./Millard South) walked to load the bases.  Senior Brock Yossi (Dallas Center, Iowa/Grimes) then pulled the Beavers within one with a bases loaded walk before Neil Eddie (Owatonna, Iowa/Owatonna) scorched an RBI single to left center.

Central then turned a home-to-first double play before Croghan came through with his clutch game-winning base hit.

BVU held a 2-0 lead in the second before the Dutch tied things up in the third.  The Beavers regained the lead in the bottom half on Scheetz’s RBI single.  Central then posted a run in the fourth and two more in the fifth to take the 5-3 lead before BVU rallied in the seventh

Croghan finished with three hits in the contest and drove in two.  Scheetz and Dillon Plath followed with two hits and one RBI, while Jesse Munsterman (St. Peter, Minn./St. Peter) finished 2-for-2.

James Stone (Des Moines, Iowa/Johnston), who came on in relief to pitch the final 2.2 innings, picked up his third win of the year.  He scattered two hits during that time and struck out two.  Lucas Hadaway got the start and pitched the first 2.2 innings, allowing a pair of unearned runs on just one hit while walking two.  Munsterman was charged with a  run in 1.1 innings, as Brennan Holm (Fairmont, Minn.) allowed two runs on one hit in his 0.1 innings.

Reggie Kock (Breda, Iowa/Ar-We-Va) picked up his second win of the year in the opener, pitching a two-hit shutout and throwing his second complete game of the year.

Munsterman finished 3-for-3 at the plate for the Beavers with two RBI, while six other players tallied one hit.  Schlecht, who was one of those six, also scored twice and stole a base.

Munsterman picked up RBI singles in both the first and third innings, while Croghan picked up an RBI ground out in the second.  The Beavers then made it 4-0 in the fifth when Scheetz singled to center.

Buena Vista is now 17-14 overall (9-8 IIAC).  The team, which improves to 7-2 at home this season, will wrap up that portion of its schedule this weekend with a three-game series with Loras College (18-15, 7-10 IIAC).
