Senior Mitch Brunick heads into Saturday’s final round tied for ninth with junior Kyle Auffert two shots back in 13th, as the Buena Vista men’s golf team wrapped up Friday’s third round in fourth place, just one shot back of third.
Brunick turned in a round of 80, as Auffert’s 76 was his lowest of the championships. Jaron Smool fired a 78 and sits 16th, only three strokes back of Auffert. Andrew Zinn also carded a 78, which shaved five strokes off his round two score, while senior Troy Ticknor shot 80 after consecutive rounds of 88 to open the championships.
As a team, BVU finished with a round of 312 – the fourth lowest of the day – and moved within just a shot of Luther, which wrapped up the day with a 315.
The Beavers will be going after their second top-three finish in the last three years, as well as an all-conference individual for the third straight year. The team hasn’t had such a run since 2003-05.
Buena Vista golfers will be paired with golfers from Wartburg and Dubuque and are scheduled to tee-off starting at approximately 9:50am.
