The Indoor Iowa Conference Championships are just around the corner, and the Buena Vista indoor track and field teams continue to set high marks as the season progresses; this time doing so during the annual BVU Open inside of the Lamberti Recreation Center on Saturday.

Freshman Casey James helped lead the way for the women’s side in the short sprints, taking fourth in the 55 meter dash in a time of 7.50 seconds.  That time is .11 seconds faster than her previous best and is the seventh-fastest time in the league this season.  She later took fifth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.88 seconds.  It was the first time she had run the event this season, and her time ranks eighth in the IIAC.

Maggie Marker took seventh for BVU in both events, while running her season-best times in both.  Laura Eberly shaved .35 seconds off of her 200 meter time and finished in ninth overall, while Abby Hesnard and Trisha Nowatzke each ran their season-bests.

Hesnard and Holly Nuetzman finished 13th and 14th, respectively in the 400 meter dash, but their times were each the fastest of any Beaver this season.

In the hurdles, Rachel Burnette placed second with a time of 9.07 seconds.  She entered the meet with the seventh-fastest time of the year in the IIAC at 8.98 seconds.  Olivia Nelson ran a season-best time of 9.41 seconds and took seventh, while Andrea Boyd, who came in with the 11th-fastest in the conference, was 8th.  Her preliminary time of 9.35 seconds matched her season-best.

Bridgett Hasche captured a second-place finish in the weight throw with a season-best toss of 12.54 meters; a mark that is eighth-best in the IIAC.  Erin Laursen also posted a season-best in the event, while Haley Henrichs did the same in the shot put.

Over on the men’s side, Peter Winterton had a solid day in the sprints for BVU, taking fourth in the 55 meter dash in a time of 6.62 seconds which was .01 seconds faster than his previous best.  His time is also fourth-fastest in the conference.  Tyler Case shaved 0.8 seconds off his previous best time and was right behind Winterton at 6.80 seconds.

Winterton later took third in the 200 meter dash, reaching the finish line in 26.64 seconds.

Seth Woodson placed fourth in the 400 meter dash in 51.57 seconds, marking the seventh-fastest in the IIAC.  Ryan Eberly was right behind in fifth at 51.88.  That mark is eighth in the league.  Woodson was also fifth in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:59.76, giving him the fourth-fastest mark this season in the IIAC.  Andrew Smith was right behind in sixth with his clocking of 2:01.23 (eighth fastest in the league).

Grant Hoffman improved his previous best time in the 600 meter run by five seconds.  Alex Lamp gave the Beavers a fourth-place finish in the 3,000 meter run in 9:12.80.
