Grinnell College scored the game's first goal on a penalty kick and added a second late in the first half, to hand the Buena Vista men's soccer team a tough 2-0 loss on Sunday afternoon inside of J. Leslie Rollins Stadium.
The Pioneers, which held the edge in shots during the first half, 10-2, broke a scoreless game during the 22nd minute on a penalty kick. The team later converted a cross pass from the far right side of the field in the 38th minute for a 2-0 lead.
Defense on both sides took over in the second half, as each team had just three shots apiece.
Alex Chavez took two of the BVU's five shots in the contest, including one that was on goal.
Michael Rydberg went the distance in-goal and chipped in with three saves.
Buena Vista is now 5-3-1 overall and will have a few days off before hosting Coe College on Friday night in a 7:00pm Iowa Conference match-up.
