Buena Vista senior forward Wes Nordquist (Adel, Iowa/ADM) has been named this week’s Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) Male Athlete of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. It’s the fourth time that he has earned Player of the Week honors in his career.
Nordquist turned in a 23-point, 16-rebound performance during BVU’s thrilling 69-66 non-conference road victory at Gustavus Adolphus on Saturday. The game was BVU’s only contest of the week.
He now has five double-doubles in eight games this season and entered the week ranked 11th in Division III in double-doubles for the year. Dating back to last season, he has posted eight double-doubles in his last 11 games. He currently leads the IIAC in points per game (19.3) and rebounds per game (11.4) for the year.
With his 16 rebounds, he surpassed the 700 mark in his career and now has 708. He also moved within three points of 1,300 in his career and is looking to become just the third player in program history to score at least 1,300 career points and haul in at least 700 career rebounds.
The win by the Beavers (5-3) extends their current win streak this season to four games, and it also snapped a five-game losing skid to the Gusties. BVU’s last win in the series came back in 2006-07 when it also topped the Gusties in St. Peter, Minn., 78-70.
