The Buena Vista men's tennis team got its 2012-13 underway prior to this weekend's Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Individual Championships with a non-conference meeting in Fort Dodge against Central College, and it was the Dutch going on to win, 9-0.
The match got off to a thrilling start with two of three doubles matches coming down to the wire. The Dutch won the number one bout over Adam Gustad and Kyle Schade, 9-8 (14-12) before also hanging onto a win at number two over Jason Ehrhardt and Cole Renken, 9-8 (7-4).
Gustad was later part of tough outing in his singles match where he was edged in three sets (6-4, 6-7, 10-3).
From there, though, Central would go onto win in straight sets in each of the final five singles matches, allowing more than two points in only one set.
Buena Vista (0-1) will now take part in the individual championships which are hosted by Luther College and begin this Friday evening at 6:00pm. Final day action is slate to begin at 9:00am.
