Buena Vista senior Mitch Brunick (Sioux Falls, S.D./O’Gorman) fired a 76 on Saturday during the final round of the 2012 Iowa Conference Men’s Golf Championships, and took sixth overall to earn all-conference accolades for the first time in his career. As a team, BVU finished fifth after a final round of 318.
Brunick’s 76 was his low round of the championships, and he gives BVU an all-conference performer for the third straight season. It’s the first time the team has had one in three straight years since doing so from 2003-05.
Kyle Auffert (Clarinda, Iowa/Clarinda) and Jaron Smool (Bagley, Iowa/Panorama) each tied for 16th after rounds of 83 and 80, respectively. Senior Troy Ticknor (Adel, Iowa/ADM) and sophomore Andrew Zinn (Spencer, Iowa/Spencer) tied for 27th. Ticknor posted his low round of the championship with a final round 79, as Zinn finished with an 83.
The Beavers finished just two shots back of Dubuque, which posted the third-lowest round of the day (309), and only seven strokes behind third-place Coe.
The championships were the final collegiate rounds of golf for Brunick, Smool and Ticknor, who helped lead BVU to three-straight top-five finishes for the first time since 1989-91.
