Wilcke Named to All-IIAC Second Team; Two Others Tabbed Honorable Mention

Buena Vista senior pitcher Chancey Wilcke (Battle Creek, Iowa/Battle Creek-Ida Grove) has earned All-Iowa Conference accolades for the first time in her career, after landing a spot on the All-IIAC Second Team, as was announced by the league office on Wednesday. BVU also had a pair of individuals recognized as Honorable Mention selections.
Wilcke had a career year on the mound, going 14-13 overall with a 2.16 ERA in over 165 innings pitched. She went the distance 19 times and posted four shutouts. She also struck out 72 and walked only 15.
During the conference season, the righthander posted a 1.93 ERA over 98 innings. She posted seven wins, including a pair of shutouts in 14 starts. In addition, she struck out 45 and walked only six.
One of her best performances of the year came against Loras, when she went all eight innings, allowing just a run on six hits, while striking out 10 and walking none, as the Beavers picked up the 2-1 victory.
Wilcke was one five total pitchers selected to the two teams this season.
Sophomores Brooke Berkey (Colfax, Iowa/Colfax-Mingo) and Sam Engleman (Hawarden, Iowa/West Sioux) were two of the three individuals tabbed as Honorable Mention selections. Berkey led the team with a .336 average and 25 runs scored. Engleman hit .301 and tied for the team lead in home runs (5) and RBI (20). Defensively, she committed only nine errors at shortstop in 180 total chances.
Buena Vista finish the year with a .500 record at 17-17 and the program’s highest win total since 2002. The Beavers also qualified for the Iowa Conference Tournament for the second time in the last three seasons.
