Three golfers were in the 70's with two others close behind, as the Buena Vista men's golf team teed-off its 2012 fall schedule on Thursday at the Siouxland Invite, hosted by Dordt College.
John Bral, Conor Dondale and Andrew Zinn all carded an opening-round 79 and are tied for 35th - only seven shots behind the lead.
Lucas Anderson and Jaxson Armstrong followed with rounds of 81 and 82, respectively, to round out the line-up for the Beavers.
As a team, BVU is in eighth place with after its round of 318, a total that trails Morningside College 2 and Doane College by only seven strokes.
Northwestern College (A) has three golfers in the top-7 and carded an overall 293 as a team to take the clubhouse lead. Neil Malenke led the Red Raiders with an opening round of one-under 70 which is three shots better than teammate Ryan Kiewiet, who's tied for second.
Final round action will take place on Friday, September 8, in Sioux Center.
