Women's Soccer Drops Double Overtime Thriller to Kohawks

Sep. 28, 2012
Storm Lake, Iowa

The Buena Vista women’s soccer team was back inside of J. Leslie Rollins Stadium to host its first Iowa Conference opponent of the season, and the Beavers were handed its first home loss of the year, falling 1-0 in double overtime to Coe College (7-3-1, 1-1 IIAC)  on Friday evening.

In a match that was a defensive battle from start to finish, senior Kellyn Arnold nearly put BVU out in front with less than a minute to go in regulation, but her header off of a Shelby Ripperger corner kick fell straight into the hands of the Kohawks keeper to send the game into overtime.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first overtime and it was just more than two minutes into the second overtime when Coe slid one past a diving Jaclyn Pfeifer.

Coe held the advantage in shots in the first half, 7-2, before the Beavers stormed back in the second half to hold a 6-1 edge.

Arnold and Ripperger each added two shots, including one on-goal, to help lead the Beavers.

Pfeifer finished with five saves, defensively, for the Beavers.

Buena Vista is now 8-3-1 overall (0-2 IIAC) and will look to end its three-match losing skid when it returns to the field on Wednesday, October 3, to play host to Iowa Wesleyan College in a 2:00pm non-conference contest.  It returns to league play next Saturday by hosting Luther College.
