Sophomores Steve Gutschenritter (Pacific Junction, Iowa/Glenwood) and Seth Shatto (Estherville, Iowa/ELC) each picked up victories, while junior Branden Schultz (Lake Crystal, Minn./LCWM) picked up a forfeit to build a 12-7 lead, but it was Loras College going on to top the Beaver wrestling team on Wednesday night, 34-12, in an Iowa Conference dual. The meet was the final home contest this season for BVU.
Schultz put BVU in front 6-0 with the forfeit at 125 pounds, while Gutscheritter made it 9-3 with an 8-3 victory over Evan Weaver. He’s now won nine of his last 10 matches overall and is 12-5 on the year. After a Loras win at 149, Shatto pushed the margin back to 12-7 with his convincing 6-2 triumph at 157 pounds. He tallied more than three minutes in riding time and pushes his overall season record to 15-6.
Loras got the benefit of forfeits in the next three weights before a decision at 197 and a pin at 285 gave them the win.
Prior to the varsity matches, senior Jacob Nelson (Gilbert, Iowa/Gilbert) picked up a second period pin in what was his final home match of his career. He was one of three seniors recognized prior to the dual (Tim Vore and Brian Broll).
Buena Vista dips to 0-3 overall (0-2 IIAC) and will be back in action next Tuesday night for an Iowa Conference dual at Simpson College (1-8, 0-2 IIAC). Action is set for 7:00pm.
